The town’s history dates back to the 10th century, when the area was inhabited by Dziadoszanie. Then a fortified city was built here, which fought off numerous invasions. The famous defense of Głogów in 1109 was described in his Polish “Chronicle of Anonymous”. From the 13th century, the German city developed and took on a multinational character – it was inhabited by Poles, Germans, Czechs, Hungarians and Jews. During the Napoleonic war, the city played a role as fortress. Even the end of the Second World War had tragic outcomes for the city – the historic old town was obliterated.

The urban layout is a class monument and therefore houses are built on the medieval grid and keeps their original names. “New” Old Town historical value is preserved by rebuilt or reconstructed buildings of old architecture: City Theater, town hall and sacred buildings.
