Snowy Cirque (Śnieżne Kotły)

The view of the Snowy Cirque – thoroughly covered with a layer of frozen snow and at the same time illuminated by the harsh winter sun or shrouded in dense fog, giving the impression that the abyss in front of the viewer has no end – remains in the memory for a long time, if not forever.

Best photos or various rankings of the most interesting places in the Karkonosze Mountains do not do justice to the places such as the one created by these two postglacial pits with steep, rock walls reaching even 200 meters. Snow can stay here – in depressions and crevices between granite rocks – even into late summer.

In order to preserve rare and protected species of plants and animals, the entire area of Śnieżne Kotły was declared a nature reserve several decades ago (today it lies within the borders of the Karkonosze National Park).

In the place of the former shelter “Nad Śnieżnych Kotłem”, there is now a radio and television broadcasting station, and nearby there is an excellent vantage point for the larger of the pits, the rock formation called Czarcia Ambona. It’s definitely worth coming here and seeing everything with your own eyes!
