Kłodzko is one of the oldest towns of Lower Silesia, located in a picturesque Kłodzko Valley on the Nysa Kłodzka River and its tributaries. Beautiful landscapes, rocky mountain slopes, woods, rapid streams and in the middle of it all, a small charming town, the only place of its kind for the people who cherish silence, peace and want to escape the hustle and bustle of large cities.
The town gained its unique character and charm due to a long and fascinating history. Today, we can only admire the remains of the past époques in the form of architectural and cultural landmarks.
Parish Church under the invocation of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary
One of the most characteristic local cultural heritage examples is the parish church under the invocation of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, a stone late-Gothic temple, whose interior comprises a wonderful collection of art. The pulpit and confessionary made by Michał Klahr, the altar by Krzysztof Tausch and the 14th century famous, wooden Kłodzko Madonna with a siskin are worth-noticing.
St John’s Bridge on the Młynówka Channel
Another place which is worth-seeing is St John’s Bridge on the Młynówka Channel, commonly referred to as the Weit Stoss Bridge by the residents of Kłodzko and its neighbourhood. Apart from wonderful sculptures and statues placed on its sides, it is worth-emphasising that the bridge was built to connect the Old Town with the Piasek Island – the historical part of the town.
Kłodzko Fortress
One of the greatest town’s attractions is the Fortress which overlooks it, located on the Castle Hill, currently called Fortress Hill. The municipal fortification from the 17th-18th century covers the area of over 30 hectares. It was built in place of the old settlement, which was situated along the trade route, forming a part of the famous Amber Route. Today, the Fortress impresses with its size and reminds of the history.
Route commemorating 1,000 years of the Polish State
The Underground Tourist Route is one of the most visited places in Kłodzko. It is about 600 metres long and runs from ul. Zawiszy Czarnego to the exit at the Fortress in the vicinity of ul. Grodzisko. The construction of the underground tunnels was launched in the 13th century by the town’s residents, who dug basements under the buildings for household and military purposes. The construction of the underground facilities was completed only in the 17th century. Today, during the walk in the underground of Kłodzko we can admire the historical exhibitions and scenes.
Kłodzko means not only landmarks and numerous architectural relics. It is also a beautiful Old Town, narrow streets and green boulevards. It means wonderful tourist routes, cycling routes and skiing slopes. The surrounding of the Stołowe Mountains with a beautiful Szczeliniec Wielki, slopes of Jamrozowa Glade, Zieleniec and Czarna Góra, picturesque panorama overlooking the Kłodzko Valley are genuine rarities for the followers of active leisure and nature lovers.

The fact that the land of Kłodzko has been a great place to relax for centuries can be attributed to the wonderful natural values and the crystal clear springs of the spas. The central point of the region, the Kłodzko Valley, is surrounded by the following mountains: Bardzkie, Sowie, Suche, Stołowe, Bystrzyckie, Orlickie, the Śnieżnik Massif, Bialskie and Złote.
The areas belonging to the Lądek-Zdrój Commune are located in the Kłodzko Valley, in the Eastern Sudetes, at the south-west end of the Lower Silesia Province.
