A unique place on the map of Wrocław’s Old Town, where, a few hundred meters from one another, you can find churches of four denominations, and multiculturalism and tolerance are not only postulates, but an everyday reality.
This small area, included in the list of monuments, is marked by the streets of Kazimierz Wielki, św. Antoni, Paweł Włodkowic and St. Mikołaja in the very center of Wrocław. A special cultural path within it connects the 18th-century late-baroque Evangelical church of Divine Providence, located in a row of tenement houses, and the 17th-century Roman Catholic church of st. Anthony of Padua, the Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God – the oldest of the churches, rebuilt from war damage at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s – and the White Stork synagogue erected in the first half of the 19th century, which returned to the Jewish community at the end of the previous century. The Four Denominations District is worth visiting not only for the monuments of sacred architecture – the unique atmosphere of the place is influenced by cafes and clubs scattered around the narrow streets, where cultural events are organized almost every day (concerts, meetings with authors, etc.), as well as the New Cinema Horyzonty – the only arthouse multiplex in Poland.
