BRIDGE OF SPIES

BRIDGE OF SPIES (Polish: Most Szpiegów) is a 2015 American-German thriller directed by Steven Spielberg. The film tells the story of an American lawyer who defends a Soviet spy in court, ultimately saving him from the death penalty. Soon after, the opportunity arises to exchange the prisoner for a U.S. pilot shot down over Soviet territory.

Filming locations: The movie was shot in Berlin, Erkner, Potsdam, Marysville, New York City, and Wrocław (notably on Ptasia, Kurkowa, and Miernicza streets). The Lower Silesian city stood in for Cold War-era East Berlin during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Outdoor scenes were filmed here, including large-scale crowd sequences. The production team even built a building façade on the site of a demolished tenement at 36 Kurkowa Street. A new mural—symbol of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany—was painted on one of the walls and removed after filming. On Ptasia Street, a section of the Berlin Wall was reconstructed specifically for the movie.

Awards: The film received a total of 58 award nominations and won 10, including an Oscar.
