Gates that need to be opened

There is a gate in Jelenia Gora under Kosciuszko Hill. Although it would be more appropriate to write “there are gates,” because after the first one is opened, other gates immediately appear. Gates that encourage you to open them, cross them and get to know what they hide inside. These are the Gates of Time – “Time Gates” an attraction that will delight and will not let you forget for a long time.

Gates of Time is a World War II-era air raid shelter open to the public, with qualified guides guiding tours. The attraction belongs to the Arado group, and its tour is a mystery-oriented journey through time and space. All this to discover the secrets of the largest underground in Karkonosze and learn about the history of Karkonosze legends.

At the Jelenia Góra Gates of Time, tourists enter one by one the various places/gates that tell the story of different historical moments. Here one can see, among other things, Poland’s largest Tesla coil, a hidden train, stand eye to eye with the Mountain Spirit, learn about attractions from neighboring towns or take part in demonstrations by a “mad lab technician” presenting, among other things, experiments with liquid nitrogen.

The attraction is visited only with a guide. Individual tourists enter together in groups of about 30 people, and the entrance of successive groups takes place every 30 minutes or so. The total length of the underground is about 4 km, while the route made available for sightseeing is about 2 km.

A trip through Lower Silesia does not have to be a typical trip by train or car. It can be a journey in time and space. All the more, it’s worth the trip.

There are two tour formulas to choose from:

– Historic Route – 1400 meters of underground tourist route, the longest accessible underground in the Giant Mountains. During the 45-minute guided hike you will learn not only about the nearly 200-year history of the site, but also about the turbulent history of Lower Silesia. Each participant in this extraordinary journey in time and space will be able to stand eye to eye with Liczyrzepa – the guardian of Karkonosze legends, learn about the mysterious machine hidden in Hirschberg during World War II, discover the treasures of the Sudetenland, and even… see the glowing wall and face the darkness that can only be found deep underground.

On weekend afternoons, we will take you on a journey through time in complete darkness – only in the glow of oil lamps

– The Maxi Historical Route, which is 1,500 meters underground and over 60 minutes of walking with stories about the history of the site and the region.

Jelenia Góra’s underground also comes alive in the evening: the last Friday of the month, which is the time for Night Sightseeing. Then the mysterious tales are accompanied only by the glow of kerosene lamps, and travelers are taken to the ominous Galgenberg Hill or invited to explore the nooks and crannies of a city with 900 years of history, i.e. a walk through the streets of Jelenia Gora shrouded in darkness.

– Science Route – is an amazing acoustic and visual experience.

Visitors will be treated to the largest Tesla Coil in Poland with a power of 2 million volts, and in another huge corridor a mysterious substance hidden in Dewar vessels. Its operation will be demonstrated by the Mad Scientist during a 45-minute event full of explosive experiments – together with the audience.

If you are not enough of explosions – you are invited to the Air vs Fire Science Tour. Then you will have the opportunity to feel the flame with a temperature of up to 2000 degrees on your own hands.

On selected dates we invite special guests: birds, dogs or exotic animals. You will learn interesting facts about them on the Nature Science Route.

At Time Gates – Gates of Time you will also organize an amazing Birthday Party, where in addition to experiments and an electric concert – unique nitrogen ice cream awaits the birthday boy and his guests, and gifts hidden in complete darkness can be found by solving specially prepared quests.
