The municipality of Strzegom is located in the southwestern part of Poland in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Świdnik County, among granite and basalt hills called the Strzegom Hills. The area of the municipality includes the town of Strzegom and 22 villages. The area of the municipality is 145 sq. km, while the rural precincts are 123 sq. km. The natural good of the Strzegom municipality is granite. Brzeg International Judo Tournament, the Strzegom Twelve, the Aryzta Strzegom Half Marathon, the Easter Fair, and the Commune Harvest Festival. Stunning concerts at the Basalt Quarry, as part of the Strzegom A Capella Festival, are now one of Strzegom’s showpieces.

Fascinating history and monuments

The city center of Strzegom is located in a strict conservation zone, which contains many elements classified as cultural heritage objects. The city’s biggest tourist attraction is the Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul in Strzegom – now the Minor Basilica, one of the largest Gothic religious buildings in Lower Silesia. It is worth noting that the temple often hosts Christmas concerts, which are extremely popular. But it is not only the basilica that makes Strzegom attractive as a medieval town. Surrounding the church are charming small Gothic churches, among them a unique one in Lower Silesia – St. Anthony’s Defensive Bastion, which encourage sightseeing and strolling. It is also impossible not to mention the churches of St. Barbara and St. Jadwiga, which attract with their architecture and arouse great interest among tourists.

An important vantage point is, located in the very center of the city, the 14th-century Market Tower. The building is facing major reconstruction in the near future.

When visiting Strzegom, it is also worth seeing the Beak Tower, built between 1291 and 1299 as part of the city’s defensive walls.

Another must-visit place in Strzegom is the historic areas located on Dolna, Świdnicka and Kasztelańska Streets. The restored 15th-century defensive walls along with the basteja, which hosts exhibitions and lectures, are a must-see for any tourist.

We also encourage you to visit the Chamber of Traditions of Strzegom Land operating in the “Carmel” Social Activity Center. It is a kind of regional museum and is located in the building of the former Carmelite monastery, dating back to 1720. It was created for history enthusiasts who are interested in the ancient times of the Strzegom municipality. It is a place where both tangible and intangible cultural values have been collected. The creation of the Chamber has made it possible to make the collection accessible to all visitors. Modern equipment and illuminated showcases make the exhibits look really impressive. In the Chamber it is worth stopping, if only for a moment, at the exhibition of Strzegom porcelain.

In the same building, for the benefit of tourists, a Tourist Information Point has been made available, where one can get comprehensive information about the municipality and its tourist and historical values.

Near the “Carmel” Social Activity Center is the zBasalt Gallery, a place created by Aleksandra Skolak, who creates one-of-a-kind jewelry from granite and promotes local manufacturers and handicraftsmen.

Hiking and cycling

The municipality of Strzegom favors hiking. The Krzyzowa Mountain, part of which is the “On Our Mountain” route, encourages people to spend time outdoors. It is worth going on a hike at any time of the year to trace the changes in nature. The entire landscape of the municipality of Strzegom includes numerous granite excavations, their deep basins are filled with clear water, and the rocky faults are overgrown with trees and bushes. This is a landscape that is unique and unparalleled in other parts of the country.

When visiting the city, it’s also worth checking out Fort Grove and the Bicycle Skills Park. These are places that promote active leisure activities.

In the village of Rogoźnica, near Strzegom, is the Gross-Rosen Museum, an important place of education and remembrance of the victims of the German Nazi extermination system and World War II.
