Description

The Museum of Post and Telecommunications in Wroclaw invites you to the temporary exhibition “The Polish Mailbox 1919-1970: Designs, Prototypes, Innovations.”

The exhibition is an unusual story about little-known and forgotten episodes in the history of the Polish mailbox in 1919-1970, based on unique exhibits from the Museum’s collection. The exhibit selects objects that have not been publicly displayed before, such as: unrealized designs of the Polish mailbox from 1919 and 1947, photographs of vehicles used for transporting correspondence – including their prototypes, photographs of innovative and non-standard mailboxes from 1919-1939, rare copies of mailboxes in force during the so-called transition periods (1919-1920 and 1945-1949), decals for marking mailboxes in the 1920s-1930s, and finally various utensils used by postal workers during their work with correspondence.

The exhibition is complemented by a story about the postal operator’s search for the best solutions and facilities of the mailbox in the years from Poland’s independence to the early 1970s. The exhibition will be on display from March 5 to July 27, 2025.
