It’s hard to imagine such a trip to the Giant Mountains, the highlight of which would not be an ascent of Śnieżka (1,602 meters above sea level), the highest peak in the Sudetes, towering over Karpacz. How to plan a trip to make the most of the time spent hiking in the mountains? Here is one suggestion.
Beginning hikers can successfully take the aforementioned Karpacz as their base – and not just for the local attractions worth visiting (such as the Museum of Sports and Tourism, Karkonosze Secrets, the Toy Museum or the KPN Information Center), but for the usual convenience (guesthouses, restaurants, stores – all in close proximity). It is worth spending the first day on a short “warm-up”, which will make it easier to climb Sněžka later. One of the must-see points on the map of the area is the famous Wang Temple – from Bialy Jar in Karpacz, a blue trail leads to it blue trail (1.5 km – about 40 minutes). Extending the first exit by less than 3.5 km, the yellow trail will lead us to Pilgrims (one of the most interesting and recognizable rock formations in Karkonosze). Including the way back, the entire route should not prove overly demanding even for people (less than 10 km, which takes about 4 hours to complete).
There are several possible routes to ascend Sněžka, aside from the gondola lift, which allows you to ascend the peak from Pec pod Sněžkou in the Czech Republic. In the summer season, one of the most interesting, although not the easiest, options is to choose the red trail from Biely Jar through Lomniczka Kotel with a view of Lomniczka Waterfall, and then approaching Sněžka from the west (3.5 h – 7.7 km). Among the less frequented, and thus much more attractive trails is the equally interesting in terms of views trail leading from Szeroki Most in Karpacz through Owl Valley and Czarna Kopa (3 h 15 min – 6.7 km). Another interesting route is the ascent to Snezka along the blue trail from the Wang Church through the Little Pond Cauldron and the Burnt Watchtower (during the hike (3.5 h – 9 km) we pass two popular mountain hostels – Samotnia and Strzecha Akademicka). The shortest, but most difficult in turn is the black trail – through the White Ravine valley and Kopa to the top of Sniezka (the approach starts from the cable car station: about 2.5 h – 5.7 km).
As you can see – in the Giant Mountains almost all roads lead to Sněžka!
