Revitalization in Krzeszów

The Cistercian Abbey in Krzeszów, known as the European Pearl of Baroque, is known for its constant work on restoring Krzeszów’s monuments and protecting its cultural heritage.

 Krzeszów

Practically every year, specific conservation works are carried out in Krzeszów. The first stage of repairing the roof of the Minor Basilica has now been completed. The repair was carried out in connection with 2017 hurricane “Grzegorz”, who broke almost 500 m2 of the roofing. Since the beginning of August, work has been underway to restore the splendor of another part of the frescoes on the vault of the St. Joseph church. Almost two weeks ago, we started a very serious stage of work in Krzeszówek, this church complex is considered the cradle of the abbey, therefore we feel responsible for restoring it to its former splendor. The Old Presbytery in Krzeszówek is planned as a tourist attraction, a place to promote Polish stations on the way of St. James route (Camino de Santiago), as well as a place for cultural events and a conference center. As part of the 2018 budget, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage also granted us financial support (in the amount of 175,000 zł) to cover the costs of conservation and restoration of J. N. Neunhertz’s paintings located in a wooden pavilion on the water – the only surviving building of this type in Europe.

As you can see in the pictures, work is underway, you can also see more needs, there are many plans. All this is motivated by the increase in tourist traffic, numerous positive opinions and, above all, the expressions of people at the entrance gate of the abbey. When visitors take the first step, and they witness the complex of post-Cistercian monuments, you can see delight. It pleases.
