Museum of Industry and Railway in Silesia in Jaworzyna Śląska

Museum of Industry and Railway in Silesia in Jaworzyna Śląska is a large European scale railway museum established in 2005 in a historic depot of 1908 in Jaworzyna Śląska in Lower Silesia.

The Museum is located in a railway site of over 2 hectares with preserved railway infrastructure, depot buildings and technical facilities. The collection covers over 120 rail vehicles from 1880 until the 1970s. The Museum is visited primarily in a ride in a historic train along a “Steam Engine Route” within the Museum.

Since 2015, with the Tkt48/18 steam engine overhauled with internal resources, along historic rail cars of the 1920s, the Museum has been arranging regular rides for tourists to various attractive locations in Silesia.  The Museum has been expanding its offer of railway tourism as a result of hard work of its specialists in maintenance and overhauls of historic rolling stock. The workshop has been undertaking overhauls of historic engines and rail cars.

Lower Silesia is one of the most rich in monuments of technology in Poland. Their huge concentration in this place (over four thousand objects, although unofficially it is said that there are even more of them!) Meant that enthusiasts of this field have developed the Lower Silesian Map of Industrial Monuments. We guarantee that it will serve everyone, and you will discover many tourist treasures in the marked places. You just need to open it …

When visiting Lower Silesia, we usually point to the largest number of castles and palaces in the country. Meanwhile, thousands of women, men and children – miners, railroad workers, weavers and representatives of other professions – worked to ensure that all these facilities functioned in a truly royal style. The Foundation for the Preservation of Industrial Heritage of Silesia, together with the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, collected some of the best-preserved and important objects for the history of Lower Silesia and placed them on one map – the Map of Industrial Monuments, while creating the Lower Silesian Industrial Monuments Route. At present, there are already 26 facilities, including mines, museums, hydroelectric power plants, mills as well as a steel plant and gasworks. All these places are open to visitors. The map is a way to introduce post-industrial objects to tourists and residents of Lower Silesia. It is available online and on paper, which can be obtained free of charge at events and competitions organized by the Marshal’s Office.

Everyone will find something for themselves on the map. The whole family will surely enjoy a trip to the Railway Museum in Jaworzyna Śląska, where the historic rolling stock will fascinate small and large railway fans. Here, we will also take a ride in a historic steam engine, and children will learn more about the construction of the locomotives, watching the locomotive painted in the colors known from the fairy tale “Tom and Friends”.

The Old Mine Science and Art Center in Wałbrzych will invite us to learn about mining traditions. In this former coal mine “Julia”, the guides are former miners, and their memories will interest everyone. A very interesting place for families is also the Wroclaw Water Knowledge Center “Hydropolis”, or the place where we will personally make paper – the Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki Zdrój.

However, there are many more interesting objects on the map. Because technical monuments are really for everyone. Please visit www.mapazabytków.pl to get to know all the places, and then just arrange a trip in line with your interests.
