The Old Mine in Wałbrzych
For a good start, however, it is worth visiting other nearby attractions. The industrial, mining tradition of Wałbrzych is presented in a very interesting way by the newly established Science and Art Center “Old Mine”, operating in the premises of the former Coal Mine “Julia”. In the restored buildings of the mine, where several thousand miners worked on coal extraction at the peak, we can now find the Museum of Industry and Technology, the Gallery of Contemporary Art, the Center for Unique Ceramics, and guest rooms and a café – all together create the largest post-industrial tourism center in Poland. Moreover, fragments of former mining shafts have been made available to tourists. Other noteworthy places include the classicist Albertich Palace, which houses the collections of the Porcelain Museum, the market square in Wałbrzych with the adjacent square. Magistrate, next to which there is a neo-Gothic town hall from the second half of the 19th century, or the oldest palm house in Poland.
Moving on to the most important point of the trip – the historic castle of the Hochberg family can be visited both during the day and at night (a special program prepared for adults – the date must be booked well in advance). Day tours are possible on three routes covering the most interesting and most important castle rooms: 1. “Baroque Książ” (it leads, among others, through the famous Maximilian Hall, the best-preserved baroque representative hall in Lower Silesia), 2. “From the Piasts to the secrets of the Second World War world “(in addition to the castle halls, tourists also visit, among others, the mysterious castle cellars, rebuilt by the Nazis as part of the Riese project), 3.” Daisy Trail “(the longest and most complete Książ’s experience – the tour also includes the castle terraces and parts of the Książański Park Landscape). An additional attraction is the opportunity to visit the Książ Stallion Stallion, mixing in the castle stables.
All practical information (opening hours, night tours and ticket prices) is available directly on the Książ Castle website: https://www.ksiaz.walbrzych.pl.
