Raised by one of the Piasts (castles) or wealthy German owners (palaces), then sold, donated, attacked and plundered, most often they did not live up to their fortified or representative destiny and fell into ruin.
They are even united by the names of architects who have attempted to rebuild some of them! Despite the common genes, each of the buildings kept its unique characteristics and its unusual atmosphere.

These are people who lead us through the ages. The earliest remain alive in stories on the verge of history and legend. Others thanks to their works are still present and give us testimony to their uniqueness. Finally, those who are contemporaries, undertaking the enormous effort to raise material and spiritual culture of Lower Silesia in times of slowly emerging stabilization, after so many years of turmoil. They turn to the past in many various cultural activities, from spectacular reconstructions of battles to the prosaic reproduction of kitchen recipes. Paradoxically, they influence the future this way, shaping completely new patterns through their actions. During the journey through the Lower Silesian section of the European Route of Castles and Palaces we will look at the same walls as our ancestors, we will rest in the same greenery as the old knights, and have the same dishes perhaps.
Enriched by the experience of past eras we have a chance to have a fascinating journey in time and space, but also to learn valuable lesson for the future.
